FORMAT GUIDE

Why convert PNG to JPEG?

JPEG is well suited to photographs and may be smaller than a photographic PNG.

  • Submitting a PNG photo to a JPEG-only application.
  • Producing smaller photographic files for email.
  • Converting screenshots when a JPEG format is mandatory.

UNDERSTAND YOUR FILES

PNG vs. JPEG: what changes?

Input · PNG

A losslessly encoded still-image format, useful for graphics, screenshots, text, and transparent backgrounds.

Output · JPEG

A widely supported photographic format. JPEG uses lossy compression and cannot represent transparency.

JPEG is well suited to photographs and may be smaller than a photographic PNG. Choosing an output format changes how another app reads the file; it does not restore detail missing from your source.

Which settings should you choose?

Try Balanced (88%) first, inspect the preview, then switch to Compact for a smaller result or Detailed for greater fidelity. These are export quality settings, not promises of a particular compression ratio.

Your files and privacy

Your selected file is converted on your device. You can download the new file while keeping the original unchanged.

Some formats work differently across browsers and devices. Check the converted result before using it for important work. Advertising and other optional website services may have separate privacy practices.

Format compatibility and limitations

JPEG cannot store transparency. Transparent and semitransparent areas are placed over a white background, and crisp text or logos may develop compression artifacts.

Actual output behavior depends on the input file, your browser, device resources and the converter engine. Check important files before sharing or replacing them.

JPG and JPEG are the same image format. This tool accepts .jpg and .jpeg input and uses .jpg for exports.
