UNDERSTAND YOUR FILES

PNG vs. PGM: what changes?

Input · PNG

A losslessly encoded still-image format, useful for graphics, screenshots, text, and transparent backgrounds.

Output · PGM

PGM is the Netpbm portable grayscale format.

PGM stores 8-bit grayscale samples and discards color information. Choosing an output format changes how another app reads the file; it does not restore detail missing from your source.

Which settings should you choose?

Start with Original dimensions to retain the decoded pixel size. Select a maximum edge only when you need a smaller output image.

Your files and privacy

Your selected file is converted on your device. You can download the new file while keeping the original unchanged.

Some formats work differently across browsers and devices. Check the converted result before using it for important work. Advertising and other optional website services may have separate privacy practices.

Format compatibility and limitations

Transparent PNG pixels remain transparent for compatible outputs, but will be flattened for JPEG. PGM output converts the image to 8-bit grayscale with no alpha.

Actual output behavior depends on the input file, your browser, device resources and the converter engine. Check important files before sharing or replacing them.
