UNDERSTAND YOUR FILES

AVIF vs. WebP: what changes?

Input · AVIF

A modern image format; this hub currently supports AVIF input only when the browser can decode it.

Output · WebP

A modern web image format supporting transparency; browser WebP export can be lossy.

WebP is supported by many content and design tools and can retain transparency. Choosing an output format changes how another app reads the file; it does not restore detail missing from your source.

Which settings should you choose?

Try Balanced (88%) first, inspect the preview, then switch to Compact for a smaller result or Detailed for greater fidelity. These are export quality settings, not promises of a particular compression ratio.

Your files and privacy

Your selected file is converted on your device. You can download the new file while keeping the original unchanged.

Some formats work differently across browsers and devices. Check the converted result before using it for important work. Advertising and other optional website services may have separate privacy practices.

Format compatibility and limitations

Both AVIF decoding and WebP encoding must work in your browser. Changing formats may increase file size or add lossy artifacts.

Actual output behavior depends on the input file, your browser, device resources and the converter engine. Check important files before sharing or replacing them.
